About the Pay-on-Results Model
What exactly is the 'bounty' system?
When you start, you set a specific relationship goal and propose an amount you'd pay if we achieve it together. This could be anything from improved communication with your partner to resolving a specific conflict. The bounty is whatever feels right to you — there's no minimum or maximum. This aligns our incentives: I only succeed when you do.
What if I can't afford much?
That's exactly why I use this model. Great relationships shouldn't be a luxury. If money is tight, propose what you can genuinely afford. I'd rather help someone for a modest amount than have financial barriers prevent people from getting support they need.
What if I'm not sure I've 'achieved' my goal?
We define success together at the start. Your goal should be specific and measurable — something you'll clearly know when you've achieved. If it's ambiguous, we'll refine it until you have a clear target. And ultimately, you decide whether we've reached it.
What's the referral bonus?
When you refer someone who achieves their desired results, you receive 10% of their bounty as a thank-you. It's my way of rewarding you for spreading the word.
When do I pay?
Payment happens after you've achieved your relationship goal and you're satisfied with the results. There's no upfront cost, no session fees, no hidden charges. If we don't reach your goal, you don't pay — or you pay only what you feel the experience was worth.
Is this too good to be true?
I understand the skepticism — it's an unusual model. But think about it this way: if I don't help you, I don't get paid. This means I only take on clients I'm confident I can help, and I'm motivated to provide real value rather than extend sessions unnecessarily. It's not charity; it's alignment of incentives.
About Sessions
How long are sessions?
Sessions typically run 50-60 minutes, though this can flex based on what we're working through. I don't watch the clock — if we're in the middle of something important, we keep going.
How often do we meet?
This varies based on your needs and goals. Some clients prefer weekly sessions initially, then taper off. Others meet fortnightly. We'll find a rhythm that works for your schedule and situation.
Are sessions phone-only?
Initial sessions are conducted via phone for accessibility and flexibility. For subsequent sessions, we can arrange in-person meetings in Brunswick, Melbourne if you prefer face-to-face connection.
What should I prepare for sessions?
Find a private, comfortable space where you can talk freely — whether that's at home or out on a walk. Allow time afterward to reflect on what we discussed. No other preparation is needed.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Life happens. Please give at least 24 hours notice if you need to reschedule. Since there's no per-session fee, there's no cancellation charge — but late cancellations do affect my ability to help other clients.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends entirely on your goals and situation. Some clients achieve their goals in 4-6 sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. We'll discuss realistic expectations during your free enquiry call.
About Jacob & the Approach
What are your qualifications?
I hold a Diploma of Counselling with specialisation in relational therapy. I'm trained in person-centred approaches inspired by Carl Rogers, attachment theory, and systems thinking. I maintain ongoing professional development and supervision. You can read more about my background on the About page.
What types of relationships do you work with?
I work with couples (married, de facto, dating), families (parent-child, siblings, extended family), and individuals who want to improve their relationship patterns. I work with people of all backgrounds, including LGBTQIA+ relationships.
What's your therapeutic approach?
I practice person-centred relational therapy, influenced by Carl Rogers' humanistic approach. I believe people have innate capacity for growth when given the right conditions: genuine empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authentic connection. I focus on practical outcomes, not just talk.
Do you give advice or just listen?
Both! While I primarily help you discover your own insights through guided exploration, I'm not afraid to offer observations, challenges, or suggestions when appropriate. My goal is your growth, not passive listening.
Can you prescribe medication?
No. I'm a therapist, not a psychiatrist or doctor. If medication seems relevant to your situation, I'll recommend you consult with your GP or a psychiatrist.
Getting Started
Is the enquiry call really free?
Absolutely. The 15-minute enquiry call is completely free with no obligation. It's simply a chance for us to connect and see if working together makes sense.
What happens in the free enquiry call?
We'll have a brief conversation about your situation and what you hope to achieve. I'll explain how I work, answer any questions, and give you an honest assessment of whether I think I can help. There's zero pressure to proceed.
How long until I hear back after enquiring?
I typically respond to booking requests within 24 hours. If you don't hear from me, please check your spam folder or contact me directly.
What if I'm not sure therapy is right for me?
That's completely normal — and exactly what the free enquiry call is for. Let's have a conversation and explore whether my approach resonates with you. If it's not the right fit, I may be able to recommend alternatives.
Do I need to tell my partner/family I'm seeking help?
That's entirely your choice. Some people prefer to explore individual sessions first before involving others. For couples or family therapy, all parties need to be willing participants, but there's no requirement for anyone to know about your individual enquiry.
Privacy & Safety
Is everything confidential?
Yes. What we discuss remains between us with very limited exceptions required by law (such as if there's risk of harm to yourself or others, or suspected child abuse). I'll explain these limits clearly before we begin.
Where is my information stored?
I use secure, encrypted systems for scheduling and basic records. Session notes are minimal and stored securely. I never share your information with third parties without explicit consent.
Can I remain anonymous in testimonials?
Absolutely. All testimonials are shared only with explicit permission, and you can choose to remain completely anonymous or use a pseudonym.
Still have questions?
I'm happy to answer any questions you might have. The best way to get personalised answers is to book a free enquiry call — no obligation, just a conversation.
